Senior Director of Human Resources


General Summary:  The Sr. Director of Human Resources is responsible for working with the Vice President of our Hotel Management Company and Vice President of Human Resources for Tavistock Development Company to develop and implement the HR strategy and overall HR platform for the hotel portfolio.  Initial focus will be on HR strategy, employment practices and policy development in alignment with culture and service direction for the properties and selection / implementation of HR core system.  The ideal candidate for this role currently is an HR leader in the hospitality sector, has strong HR generalist experience and is an innovative self-starter.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement human resource strategy for Tavistock Hotel Collection
  • As the hotel portfolio develops, provide guidance to HR Shared Services and Property teams
  • Ensure culture tenets are embodied in the organization and woven through all HR processes
  • Responsible for on brand recruitment and retention planning; including candidate development
  • Business partner for executive management regarding personnel matters and impact of business decisions on personnel / polices
  • Develop initial approach for employee engagement and drive programming / practices
  • Lead the training function; including orientation, service program, compliance related training and leadership development
  • Responsible for culture driven internal communication
  • Develop initial total cash / compensation program in conjunction with Hotel leadership and Finance
  • Develop and implement personnel policies and practices
  • Responsible for HR core system work flows and implementation
  • Ensure compliance with all labor and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with Tavistock Development on health benefits and overarching company policies
  • Responsible for benefits and payroll administration
  • Liaison to outside legal services as needed for labor relations issues
  • Continuously evaluate risk in all areas of human resources and take action as appropriate
  • Utilize technology where appropriate for ease of HR processes
  • Other duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned

Essential Qualifications:

  • Four year degree in human resources, hospitality management or business and / or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of human resources experience with 3 years at director level, responsible for multiple properties and start up
  • PHR or SPHR designation preferred
  • Previous luxury hotel / hospitality experience preferred
  • Strong experience in employee and labor relations
  • Deep knowledge of HRIS development and implementation
  • Proven ability to drive human potential through strong culture and service based HR practices
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in human resources
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to successfully manage cross functional relationships while ensuring accountability for deadlines and commitments
  • Radiates a high level of contagious energy, not complacent or content with status-quo
  • Knows how to proactively identify critical path tasks and execute on those tasks
  • Demonstrates effective communication, cooperation and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong ability to problem solve while not sacrificing project goals
  • Able to maintain a dual focus on the big picture and the details
  • Highly proficient in MS Office Suite, Abode Acrobat Professional and Publisher
  • Ability to travel, including overnight, based on business needs
  • Must be able to communicate in English effectively with other individuals. Bilingual a plus
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Possess a Florida driver’s license and able to drive for company business
